ABSTRACT
Abstract Purpose In several Asian countries, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of cancer deaths. HCC risk factors in Asia differ from those elsewhere and are changing with the treatment landscape as systemic options increase. This study was conducted to gain insight physicians patients into screening, diagnosis, strategies Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam. Methods Two cross-sectional, anonymized, online surveys were completed between July December 2022 by diagnosing treating (55 questions on factors, surveillance, treatment) ≥ 18 years old diagnosed (36 disease knowledge, quality life, experiences diagnosis treatment). Results Responses received 276 all 7 countries 130 From physician’s perspective, surveillance programs widespread but identify insufficient cases; only 18% early-stage at diagnosis. patient’s knowledge increases after few seek support patient associations; would benefit better communication their doctors. Treatment affordability side effects key issues for patients. Conclusions Awareness should be raised primary care general population, HCC. Because rely doctors support, understand patients’ needs, could supported trained nurses or case managers. Programs needed increase access proven treatments.
