COVID-19 lockdown in Italy: the role of social identification and social and political trust on well-being and distress

ABSTRACT
The COVID-19 pandemic has rapidly become a global health crisis, leading people to change their interpersonal behaviours contain the spread of virus. Italy country hit second hardest in world by and first one Western countries. To reduce COVID-19, are required behaviours, reducing social interactions close contacts. lockdown impact on economy as well psychological processes is relevant, we conducted an exploratory study examine which factors associated with reactions Italians during lockdown. Participants (n = 690) self-reported identification three levels (i.e., Italians, Europeans humankind), trust toward political actors, level welbeing, interdependent-happiness, distress. Results showed that relation between wellbeing distress was mediated humankind, only humankind relationship interdependent-happiness. did not emerge mediator such relationships. implications for dealing discussed.
