Bone fracture in physically disabled children attending schools for handicapped children in Japan

ABSTRACT
Very few epidemiologic studies on bone fracture have been conducted in schools for handicapped children (Yogo schools). The aim of this study was to clarify the frequency and risk factors physically disabled Japan.We used a cross-sectional design examine 525 38 Yogo Hokuriku-Koshinetsu District Japan. questionnaire surveyed information participant sex, age, level physical disability, history. Information fractures obtained, including number over lifetime, age when occurred, location, cause. One-year-period prevalence lifetime were defined as proportion subjects with incident previous year history fracture, respectively.Participant ages ranged from 6 15 years, 66.3% had cerebral palsy (CP). 1-year-period 3.6% 9.7%. groups 6-9, 10-12, 13-15 years 2/184 (1.1%), 5/171 (2.9%), 12/164 (7.3%), respectively (P trend = 0.0031). There no differences period between sexes, not associated presence CP. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that one joint contracture lower limbs or hip independently occurrence lifetime.Physically are at high further should be determined.
