ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to describe the clinical characteristics, microscopic findings, and treatment response albendazole microsporidial keratoconjunctivitis among immunocompromised individuals with HIV/AIDS.This a retrospective case series. Diagnosis was confirmed by subspecialist examination conjunctival swabs examined light microscopy. HIV infection documented, absolute CD4+ T cell count determined. Patients were treated followed for response.Light microscopy from demonstrated myriad small, round oval organisms that stained positively modified acid-fast methods. Two patients initially not taking highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) presenting an less than 100 cells/μL had more severe form third patient (receiving HAART, 259 cells/μL). All started or continued on HAART. responded oral albendazole, resolution symptoms signs. did respond, perhaps because immune recovery inflammatory syndrome, but subsequently temporary improvement albendazole.Microsporidial rare ocular complication HIV/AIDS. Light evaluation may be useful minimally invasive first step toward diagnosis keratoconjunctivis in settings where electron available. Based limited available information, often effective condition, widely developing countries at low cost.
