ABSTRACT
Abstract The field of robotics has grown exponentially over the years, especially social aspect, which enabled robots to interact with humans meaningfully. Robots are now used in many domains, such as manufacturing, healthcare, education, entertainment, rehabilitation, etc. Along their widespread usage real-life environments, have been companions humans. With increased amount research done on human–robot companionship (HRC), it is important understand how this domain developing, direction, and what future might hold. There also a need influencing factors kind empirical results literature. To address these questions, we conducted systematic literature review analyzed final number 134 relevant articles. findings suggest that anthropomorphic zoomorphic more popular human companions, while there lack interest functional caricatured robots. Also, human-like animal-like features implemented companion Studies rarely exploit mobility available scenarios, outdoor settings. In addition that, co-existence co-performance-based implementation observed rarely. Based results, propose agenda includes thematic, theoretical, methodological, technological agendas. This study will help us current state robotic then potentially aid determining HRC can be leveraged integrated seamlessly into lives for better effectiveness.
