Geographic latitude and human height - Statistical analysis and case studies from China

ABSTRACT
Abstract Based on Chinese General Social Survey(CGSS) data, this paper selects ten variables, including height, gender, household registration, and age. Through the statistical analysis of 57,574 survey samples, study finds that average height China’s population has increased by more than 10 cm in past 100 years. Among findings, data indicate men born after 1990s is 11 taller 1920s, which now reached 173 cm, women 10.93 taller, averaging 163 cm. The reflects significant differences region or province, urbanity rurality, nationality, among other variables. gradually increases with increase geographical latitude. Some economically developed southern provinces approach North. This predicts newborn will continue to have inertial growth next 20 years, male reach World Health Organization’s ideal standard 176.5 2030. suggests geographic latitude heredity are determinants body development. Geographical difference a super-variable for human mitochondria regulate proportion heat outflow ATP transformation. Historically, living high-latitude areas China migrates low-latitude such as Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, main reason why per capita these significantly provinces.
