ABSTRACT
Abstract The ability to control and direct fire is a major evolutionary step in the human story. development of aceramic cooking technologies less well understood as they rarely survive archaeological record. However, inferential evidence such fire-cracked rocks, earthen pits heated bones suggest variety methods were used prior invention ceramics. Yet there paucity experimental testing efficacy perishable organic containers tasks involving their use with heat. study presents results for heating water related cooking. Containers made from deer hide pig stomach was using two different techniques: placing container directly above hot stones into container. that types could attain maintain sub-boiling temperature; however, not all reach boiling point. It argued these may be as, or perhaps more, desirable than boiling, potential implications vessels adoption
