Measuring Engagement at Work: Validation of the Chinese Version of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale

ABSTRACT
Work engagement is a positive work-related state of fulfillment characterized by vigor, dedication, and absorption. Previous studies have operationalized the construct through development Utrecht Engagement Scale. Apart from original three-factor 17-item version instrument (UWES-17), there exists nine-item shortened revised (UWES-9). The current study explored psychometric properties Chinese Scale in terms factorial validity, scale reliability, descriptive statistics, validity. A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted 2009 among 992 workers over 30 elderly service units Hong Kong. Confirmatory factor analyses revealed better fit for model UWES-9 than UWES-17 one-factor UWES-9. three factors showed acceptable internal consistency strong correlations with versions. negatively associated perceived stress burnout while positively age holistic care climate. demonstrates adequate properties, supporting its use future research context.
