ABSTRACT
Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders experience a high prevalence of overweight/obesity. The Diabetes Prevention Program Lifestyle Intervention (DPP-LI) was translated into 3-month community-based intervention to benefit these populations. weight loss and other clinical behavioral outcomes the DPP-LI socio-demographic, behavioral, biological factors associated with were examined. A total 239 Hawaiian/Pacific Islander adults completed through four organizations (CBOs). Changes from pre- post-intervention assessments in weight, blood pressure, physical functioning, exercise frequency, fat diet measured. Significant improvements on all variables found, differences observed across CBOs. CBOs predominately Hawaiian ethnically homogenous groups had greater loss. General linear modeling indicated that larger baseline CBO predicted can be effective for Islanders, especially when socio-cultural, socio-economic, CBO-related contextual are taken account.
