ABSTRACT
To evaluate the quality assurance of mammography results at a reference institution for diagnosis and treatment breast cancer in southern Brazil, based on BIRADS (Breast Imaging Reporting Data System) 5th edition recommendations auditing purposes.Retrospective cohort cross-sectional study with 4502 patients (9668 mammographies)) who underwent least one or both mammographies throughout 2013 regional public hospital, linked to federal university. The were followed until 31 December 2014, including true positives (TPs), negatives (TNs), false (FPs), (FNs), positive predictive values (PPVs), negative value (NPV), sensitivity specificity, confidence interval 95%.The showed high assurance, particularly regarding (90.22%) specificity (92.31%). overall (PPV) was 65.35%, (NPV) 98.32%. abnormal interpretation rate (recall rate) 12.26%.The are appropriate when compared proposed by edition. Additionally, provided self-reflection considering our radiological practice, which is essential improvements collaboration detection. It may stimulate better practice performance continuing education, despite possible infrastructure facility limitations.• Accurate rates financial governmental limitations. • Low-income institutions should develop standardised teamwork improve practice. Regular audits help increase health systems.
