ABSTRACT
5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is a potent photosensitizer used in colon and rectal cancers. 5-FU on galvanostatic electrolysis or radiation-induced oxidation of aqueous solution yields N(1)-C(5)-linked dimmer hydrate 5-FU. Copper presently associated with chromatin; cancer cells the concentration copper very high. It has been shown to be capable mediating action several anticancer drugs through production reactive oxygen species (ROS). The objective present study determine Cu (II)-mediated mechanism under photo-illumination as well alone. We have that pro-oxidant was enhanced when (II) compared This may due inhibition dimerization combination photo-illumination. also alone able generate oxidative stress lymphocyte which inhibited by scavengers ROS. Moreover, results Fourier-transformed infrared spectra lead conclusion (II). interaction Hence, we propose during chemoradiotherapy 5-FU, endogenous mobilized leading generation ROS cause possibly cell death apoptosis.
