First report of Alternaria arborescens causing leaf spot in manzano pepper (Capsicum pubescens)

ABSTRACT
In Mexico, manzano pepper (Capsicum pubescens) is a crop of economic importance. 2022, in the municipality Taxco de Alarcon, Guerrero, leaf spots were observed mazano crop. The fungus Alternaria spp., was consistently isolated from symptomatic pepper. A molecular characterization carried out by amplification and sequencing internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region ribosomal DNA, major allergen (Alt 1), anonymous gene (OPA10-2). BLAST analysis indicated similarity that varied 99.5 to 100% with arborescens sequences GenBank. phylogenetic using Maximum Likelihood method two isolates sp., obtained pepper, they clustered A. (CBS 115189 CBS 112749). Using uninjured month-old plants grown greenhouse conditions, Koch's postulates verified fulfilled. To our knowledge, this first report as caused spot Mexico world.
