ABSTRACT
The surface vegetation condition has been operationally monitored from space for many years by the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) and Moderate Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instruments. As these instruments are close to end of their design life, products required users new satellite missions. MEdium Spectral Imager-II (MERSI-II) onboard Fengyun (FY) (FY-3 series; FY-3D) is used retrieve parameters. First, MERSI-II solar channel measurements at red near-infrared (NIR) bands top atmosphere (TOA) corrected reflectances canopy (TOC) removing contributions scattering absorption molecules aerosols. normalized difference index (NDVI) both TOA TOC then produced using same algorithms as MODIS AVHRR. enhanced VI (EVI) also developed. technique compositing NDVI various timescales applied generate gridded different resolutions. consistent with data without systematic biases. Compared current EVI generated ground operational system, this study a much better agreement after atmospheric correction.
