ABSTRACT
Sedimentation has always been a great threat to the life of reservoirs. Flushing is one of the techniques used to enhance the life of reservoirs. On the basis of literature review, focus was set on fourteen reservoirs where flushing has already been implemented. Six of fourteen reservoirs were found successfully flushed, whereas the remaining were reported to be flushed partially. In this particular study, data of three successfully flushed reservoirs i.e., Baira of India, Gebidem of Switzerland, and Santo-Domingo of Venezuela were used to run 1-D numerical Model DOSSBAS. Initially, longitudinal profiles of deltas were modeled and compared with the observed sediment depositions. These delta profiles were then used for flushing deltas using the reported flushing discharges. The durations of flushing were computed through the model to flush the deposited materials. Simulated flushing durations were compared with the observed flushing durations. The results reveal that the model can successfully simulate sediment depositions in the reservoirs; however, estimated flushing durations are very short than the observed values.
