ABSTRACT
In several studies, hyperprolactinemia has been associated with increased breast cancer risk. Evidence shows that prolactin (PRL) is linked to mammary tumorigenesis, especially in postmenopausal patients, but the data remain controversial. We present a case of 67 year-old patient resistant PRL-secreting PitNET who subsequently developed cancer. The was known have persistent high PRL levels despite multimodal treatment (surgery, radiotherapy, and doses cabergoline). tumor specimens obtained after transsphenoidal intervention were histologically immunohistochemically examined for following parameters: anterior pituitary hormones, ki-67 labeling index, CAM 5.2 expression, ER ∝ somatostatin receptors, which revealed densely granulated intense positivity , index 6% negative MGMT expression. Years later, diagnosed carcinoma. Histopathological immunohistochemical examination specimen radical mastectomy confirmed ductal invasive immunostaining receptors (PLRr) positive estrogen (ER) progesterone (PGR) 8%. involved development differentiation, leads lactation, major driver during pregnancy, by regulating ovarian production. On basis physiological actions PRL, role this hormone suggested. Few cases different types carcinoma due reported literature. association between risk not well understood. Immunohistochemistry evaluation PLRr can be helpful provide information these cases.
