Abstract The present paper analyzes development patterns in research networks and technology as well their co-evolution by the example of currently highly transformative German automotive industry. We therefore introduce a consistent network-based approach for measuring change technological composition patents. Our results show that applied method is particularly useful identifying structural similarities main changes patent networks. Further, investigation co-evolutionary processes indicates that, regarding industry, lead to network.
