Physicians' knowledge and practice concerning diagnosis and management of anaphylaxis: The situation in Egypt

ABSTRACT
Early recognition of an anaphylaxis event is crucial for instituting lifesaving management. We sought to explore knowledge and practice towards in a sample physicians from ten Egyptian governorates.An eighteen question-based questionnaire was developed by expert allergists evaluate the anaphylaxis, based on World Allergy Organization guidelines assessment management anaphylaxis. The questionnaires were distributed, answered forms collected via emails, data tabulated, analysed.In this cross-sectional study, total 242 completed survey (183 (75.6%) paediatricians, 32 (13.2%) internists, 22 (9.1%) intensivists five (2.1%) anaesthetists). Only 91 participants (37.6%) identified all four proposed clinical scenarios while 70, 45 36 three, two one scenario, respectively. Loss consciousness abdominal symptoms not recognised as possible presentations 64.5% 80.2% participants, Epinephrine considered first line treatment 98 (40.5%), corticosteroids 77 (31.8%) antihistamines 25 (10.3%). 75 (31%) responders right dose epinephrine 119 (49.2%) proper route. Concerning practice, 83 (39.2%) used cases 88 (41.5%) it refractory only whereas 41 (19.3%) did use at all.Our shows that their are still inadequate. current situation reinforces need disseminate encourage adoption international diagnosis treatment.
