ABSTRACT
Effective provider-patient communication can improve antibiotic stewardship in primary care, but providers find it challenging to discuss antibiotics with patients. This study, focused on college student health centers, examines patients' tactics for obtaining upper respiratory tract infections and providers' strategies improving patient understanding reducing demand.Health care (N = 103) employed at centers large primarily residential campuses the U.S. completed an online survey.Providers perceived patients as wanting approximately 50% of infection visits noted multiple obtain them, including reports prior prescribing, suggested diagnoses, direct requests. Providers used manage demand, explanation diagnosis, utility risks, treatment plan.This study extends research indicating that exercise a range influence antibiotics, thereby create discomfort providers.
