Recurrent cutaneous basal cell carcinoma after surgical excision: A retrospective clinicopathological study

ABSTRACT
Recurrence of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) after complete surgical excision is rarely reported. Risk factors for this negative outcome are not well-studied. We present the clinical and histological features recurrent BCCs in our institution.All patients between January 2016 to December 2020 whose primary were excised with free margins according histopathology report, represented later local recurrence included. The medical files retrieved record patient's age, sex, sun exposure, tumor site, size, diagnosis, variant lesion, least margin distance original time.Eighteen (11 males 7 females ranged 50 75 years old) fulfilled inclusion criteria; all their lesions located head neck regions. mean time was 31.2 months (11-86) same 17/18 patients. Primary tumors showed nodular subtype 77.8% 55.6% less than 15 mm diameter. Sun exposure history given by while rest had non-significant exposure. All 4 mm.We found that studied mm. recommend follow up either those low or high risk variants. Tumor size does appear a considerable factor recurrence.
