ABSTRACT
To derive and evaluate an alternative equation to estimate maximal HR in PwPD the absence of structured exercise testing using observed data from a cardiopulmonary test (CPET) basic demographic clinical data. Baseline randomized trial SETTING: Academic medical center PARTICIPANTS: Eighty-two persons with mild-moderate PD who completed CPET INTERVENTION: Not applicable MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: A linear regression model was fit relaxed least absolute shrinkage selection operator (lasso) seven readily clinically accessible candidate covariables. Model assessed by leave-one-out cross-validation. Maximal HRs were compared estimates two traditional age-based estimators, (220-age) [208 - (0.7*age)]. The regression-based estimator [166 (1.15 * age) + (0.60 resting HR)] most closely CPET. (0.7*age)] equations overestimated for 88% 94% participants, respectively. mean square error 63% 75% lower than those Overestimating generates prescribed target zones that are likely unachievable during aerobic exercise. proposed Adoption this estimator, based upon both age HR, may improve estimated accuracy thus provide more appropriate achievable
