ABSTRACT
Globally significant variation in treatment and course of heart valve disease (HVD) exists, outcome measurement is procedure focused instead patient focused. This article describes the development a patient-related (International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement) standard set outcomes case mix to be measured patients with HVD. A multisociety working group was formed that included representatives from scientific cardiology cardiothoracic surgery societies publish current guidelines The developed monitor patient's journey diagnosis either surgical or transcatheter procedure. Candidate clinical patient-reported measures (PROMs) were identified through benchmark analyses systematic reviews. Using an online modified Delphi process, voted on final outcomes/case corresponding definition. Patients aortic/mitral/tricuspid root/ascending aorta >40 mm set. entered dataset when HVD established, allowing preprocedural, periprocedural, postprocedural phases patients' lives. defined 5 domains: vital status, outcomes, progression disease, cardiac function durability, complications treatment. Subsequently, 16 measures, including 2 selected tracked Case-mix variables demographic factors, variables, echocardiographic catheterization specific details valves their interventions. Through unique collaborative effort between societies, developed. focuses regardless treatment, moving procedure- patient-centered outcomes. Implementation this will facilitate global standardization measurement, allow meaningful comparison health care systems evaluation practice guidelines, eventually improve those experiencing worldwide.
