ABSTRACT
Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by the loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons in substantia nigra (SN) and aggregation α-synuclein (α-syn). Current PD therapies merely provide symptomatic relief, lacking disease-modifying therapeutic strategies against that could reverse ongoing neurodegeneration. In quest exploring novel modifying strategies, compounds from natural sources have gained much attention recent days. YIAEDAER (Tyr-Ile-Ala-Glu-Asp-Ala-Glu-Arg) peptide a multi-functional isolated purified visceral mass extract Neptunea arthritica cumingii (NAC) with plethora pharmacological activities, however its neuroprotective effect MPTP induced model not yet reported. We found co-treatment suppressed MPTP-induced locomotor impairment zebrafish, ameliorates degeneration DA neurons, inhibited vasculature cerebral vessels, α-syn levels. Moreover, modulates several genes related to autophagy (α-syn, pink1, parkin, atg5, atg7, beclin1, ulk1b, ulk2, ambra1a), oxidative stress (sod1, sod2, gss, gpx4a, gsto2, cat). Hence, our finding suggests might be potential candidate like condition.
