ABSTRACT
Temperature and moisture content are the two main factors that affect grain storage without aeration. A two-dimensional, finite difference model was developed to predict temperature and moisture content of rough rice stored in a cylindrical bin subjected to variations in ambient air temperature variation. Mass transfer is considered to affect heat transfer model and also mass and heat transfer are linked by the moisture content dependent thermo-physical properties of rough rice. Model validation was made by comparing predicted with experimental measured temperature data at different points of a pilot silo. The proposed model can be used to optimise the design and operation of rough rice storage systems.
