ABSTRACT
Seedling establishment is critical for grain yield and net benefits of wheat in wet clay soil after puddled rice harvest the Yangtze River basin (YRB) China. A wet-resistant rotary strip-till seeder (WR seeder) was developed to drill seeds zero tillage (ZT) conditions with complete residue mulching. The blades adopted were medium radius C type creating a 50–60 mm wide 30–50 deep furrow seed placement. pressing roller, usually used traditional seeders, has been replaced by two ground wheels covered rubber reduce mud adhesion. Moreover, stainless-steel chain installed behind machine better covering soil. Based on three-year long field comparisons (DT rototiller disc-type shallow (SHT seeder), six-row WR significantly enhanced seedling establishment, reduced energy consumption 51.3% 24.5%, respectively. also conserved topsoil moisture. Over three years, produced similar SHT seeder, but 3.1% more than DT seeder. profit increased 39.4% 0.9% compared Furthermore, across YRB confirmed positive effects economic over conventional seeding practices. Thus, it demonstrated that improved an optimal option enhance RW system productivity YRB.
