ABSTRACT
The synthesis of mixed-component metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) –including multivariate MOFs (MTV-MOFs), multicomponent MOFs, mixed-metals and mixed-ligands metals MOFs– is becoming a very active research field. This mainly based on the unique possibilities these materials offer to incorporate multiple functionalities in how this heterogenity complexity translated unexpected properties, which are not just sum each component. review critically encompasses progress made field, covering synthetic approaches, specially focusing current reported applications –such as gas storage separation, catalysis, luminescence, conductivity, biological ones water remediation. It also raises, perspective, some challenges field has overcome reach their full-potential, through two –(bio)enzymatic catalysis heterometallic subnanometric clusters nanoparticles–, exemplary cases, present promising ways take advantage intrinsic properties mixed-components make breakthrough respective fields application.
