ABSTRACT
The COVID-19 pandemic overwhelmed health facilities and presented healthcare workers (HCWs) with a new infectious disease threat. In addition to sanitary crisis, Brazil still had face major political, economic, social challenges. This study aimed investigate mental outcomes in frontline HCWs different regions of the country at epidemic times. We also sought identify main risk factors associated these outcomes.A cross-sectional online survey using respondent-driven sampling was conducted recruit physicians (n = 584), nurses 997), nurse technicians 524) 4 (North, Northeast, Southeast, South) from August 2020 July 2021. used standardized instruments screen for common disorders (CMD)(SRQ-20), alcohol misuse (AUDIT-C), depression (PHQ-9), anxiety (GAD-7), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)(PCL-5). Gile's successive estimator produce weighted estimates. created three-cluster data set each HCW category developed hierarchical regression model three levels: individual characteristics; workplace-related aspects; personal experience. impact moment on studied.The prevalence probable CMD 26.8-36.9%, 8.7-13.6%, 16.4-21.2%, 10.8-14.2%, PTSD 5.9-8.0%. found stronger association between following factors: history psychiatric disorders, female gender, clinical comorbidities (level 1); work overload family isolation 2); sick leave 3). Epidemic variables, such as number deaths trend by COVID-19, almost no outcomes.An alarmingly high Brazilian HCWs. Individual were most strongly outcomes. These findings indicate need develop programs that provide emotional support, professionals refer them specialized treatment when necessary.
