ABSTRACT
Highlights•Gear-shaped carbonate apatite granules had six protrusions and a hexagonal macropore.•The formed vascular bone on the surface within structure was similar to cancellous structure.•The were gradually replaced with new bone.•Bone percentage rapidly recovered then maintained at normal level.AbstractSynthetic grafts are in high demand owing increased age-related disorders global aging population. Here, we report fabrication of gear-shaped (G-GRNs) for rapid healing. G-GRNs possessed macropore granular center. These composed apatite, i.e., mineral, microspheres ∼1-μm micropores spaces between microspheres. blood vessels (both macropores) 4 weeks after implantation rabbit femur defects. The that bone. defect week-4 post-implantation, remained constant following 8 weeks. Throughout entire period, G-GRN-implanted group ∼10% higher than implanted conventional granules. Furthermore, portion resorbed week-4, resorption continued Thus, involved remodeling while maintaining suitable level. findings provide basis design synthetic achieving regeneration.Graphical abstract
