ABSTRACT
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect melatonin supplement in different extenders on quality cryopreserved goat semen. Six semen pools were skim milk (SM – Experiment 1) or tris-egg yolk (TEY 2) based supplemented with (0, 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 mM). After thawing, kinetic sperm parameters [total motility (TM), progressive (PM), curvilinear velocity (VCL), straight-line (VSL), linearity (LIN), straightness (STR), wobble (WOB)] viability [plasma acrosomal membrane integrity (iMPA), high mitochondrial potential (hPMM) intracellular ROS production (iROS)] observed at time 0 h after incubation (37 °C). In experiment I, only for hMMP variable (p < 0.05), a vs interaction observed. Was noted negatively influenced variables over period, except STR, iMPA, iROS parameters. treatment had effects VCL, VSL, WOB, hPMM, iROS, however, TM, PM, LIN, STR iMPA there no significant difference regarding concentrations. II, observed, time, analyzed variables. 0.05) all throughout exception showed hPMM VCL concentrations melatonin. conclusion, does not improve post-thawing SM TEY may be deleterious when concentration mM.
