ABSTRACT
Constructing and operating a multi-reservoir system changes the natural flow regime of rivers, thus imposes adverse impacts on riverine ecosystems. To balance human needs with ecosystem needs, this study proposes an ecologically oriented operation strategy for that integrates environmental requirements into joint in order to maintain different ecological functions throughout river. This is combination regular optimal scheme series real-time schemes. During time periods when incompatibilities between water flows are relatively small, implemented maximize multiple water-use benefits under constraints minimum water-release policy. reservoir-induced hydrological alteration significant negative river's key functions, schemes modify outflow from reservoirs meet these functions. The practical use demonstrated simulation large-scale which located middle lower Han River Basin China. results indicate ensure can be compensated by scheme. proposed enriches theoretical application considers requirements.
