ABSTRACT
Herbgenomics is an emerging field of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) research and development. By combining TCM with genomics, herbgenomics can help to establish the scientific validity bring it into wider usage within medicine. Salvia Linn. ( S . Linn.) a large genus Labiatae that includes important medicinal plants. In this study, complete chloroplast (cp) genomes two spp.—namely, S. przewalskii bulleyana , which are used as surrogate for miltiorrhiza —were sequenced compared those other reported japonica The genome organization, gene number, type, repeat sequences were compared. annotation results showed both plants contain 114 unique genes, including 80 protein-coding, 30 transfer RNA (tRNA), four ribosomal (rRNA) genes. Repeat sequence analysis revealed 21 forward 22 palindromic in cp genomes, 17 tandem repeats respectively. A synteny comparison spp. high degree similarity coding regions relatively divergence intergenic spacers. Pairwise alignment single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) analyses found some candidate fragments identify spp., such region trnV–ndhC trnQ–rps16 atpI–atpH psbA–ycf3 ycf1 rpoC2 ndhF matK rpoB rpoA accD All results—including SNP sites, inverted (IR) border, phylogenetic analysis—showed extremely similar from genetic standpoint. here will pave way breeding, species identification, evolution, engineering studies
