Effects of internal displacement and resettlement on the mental health of Turkish children and adolescents

ABSTRACT
To evaluate the effects of internal displacement and resettlement within Turkey on emotional behavioral profile children, age 5-18 after controlling for possible confounding demographic variables.We conducted a national population survey using self-weighted, equal probability sample. We compared CBCL, TRF YSR responses regarding children with (n = 1644) without 1855) experience displacement. examined gender, age, paternal employment, resettlement, urban residence physical illness.The adolescents had significantly higher internalizing, externalizing total problem scores CBCL YSR, internalizing TRF. The effect was related to problems when factors like illness, child gender were accounted. overall small explaining only 0.1-1.5% variance by parent reports, not evident teacher reports.To our knowledge present study is first examine Turkish results are consistent previous immigration studies: presence illness more important predictors internalization externalization irrespective informant source.
