ABSTRACT
Abstract Pediococcus acidilactici NCDC 252 is a potential probiotic dairy origin. Next generation sequencing of its genome showed it to be novel with characteristics similar to Lactobacillus plantarum and Pediococcus acidilactici. Its genome was found to have 19 novel genes. Novel genes were translated and their encoded proteins were characterized and domains were predicted. Only four out of 19 genes encoded for functional proteins i.e. NAD-dependent epimerase, DEAD box helicase, transposase and RNA polymerase sigma factor whereas 15 encoded for hypothetical proteins with unknown structure and function. This suggests NCDC 252 genome to be unique. Cloning, expression of genes and characterization of encoded proteins will help in understanding of NCDC 252.
