Prevalence and factors associated with depression among the mothers of school-going children in Dhaka city, Bangladesh: A multi stage sampling-based study

ABSTRACT
Motherhood is associated with extra stress, and mothers of young children are particularly prone to developing depression mental health problems.This analytical cross-sectional study was conducted in Dhaka city, Bangladesh, from June December 2019. Mothers school-going were recruited through a multistage sampling technique. city divided into two divisions then further subdivided public private sectors. Six schools selected each sector by using simple random A list class five eight students collected school systematic sampling. Data face-to-face interviews semi-structured questionnaires. The rate depressive symptoms measured the validated Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS).A total 324 women participated this study; majority (85.5%) Muslim, 67.0% housewives, 53.1% had girl child. Among women, 15.4% mild, 22.2% moderate, 20.1% severe depression. Most child's behavioral lifestyle factors mother's Adjusted analyses indicate that if child often unhappy, depressed, or tearful [(OR (95%CI = 22.27 (8.39-59.11)], gets nervous new situations easily loses confidence (95%CI) 5.45 (2.96-10.00)], lies cheats 8.93 (3.76-21.22)], afraid 7.09 (3.79-13.24)], watches television for 3 h more 23.77 (6.46-87.48)] browses internet 7.37 (2.76-19.67)] depression.The concludes among Bangladesh high.
