ABSTRACT
<h2>Abstract</h2> Fatalities due to road accidents remain a major challenge worldwide. In the recent years, Malawi, one of developing African countries with total population about 19 million has also been witnessing very high fatality rate [of 31 crash deaths per 100,000 in 2016] compared most its neighbours region. This seems be continuously increasing even several intervention measures, such as, speed and alcohol impairment laws, laws for mandatory seatbelt helmet use. view this, study attempted investigate trend fatalities that effectiveness existing measures can established. For archived data between years 2000–2021 were used undertake analyses. The method Cumulative Summation was identify points series, followed by Mann-Kendall statistic (τ) determine during intervened period using non-parametric Rank-Sum test support findings. results showed decreasing early legislating policy [2000–2012] and, thereafter [2013–2021], increased significantly [τ = 0.8333]. suggests there acceptance motorists/public implementation [2000–2012], which might have overshadowed vehicle growth weak enforcement mechanism seen lately. therefore is still scope review their effective as well regular monitoring.
