ABSTRACT
Fungal diseases are among the biotic factors limiting production of faba bean in Ethiopia. The objective this study was to isolate and identify seedborne mycoflora associated with seed samples, determine their effects on germination disease transmission, evaluate antimicrobial activities seven plant extracts four Trichoderma spp. against pathogen isolated from seed. Fifty samples were collected different farmers' saved seeds five major bean-producing varieties Ambo district tested by agar plate methods as recommended International Seed Testing Association (ISTA). A total 7 fungal species belonging 6 genera, viz. Fusarium oxysporum (Schlechlendahl), solani (Mart.) Sacc, Aspergillus Penicillium Botrytis Rhizoctonia (Kühn) Alternaria identified. Among these, spp., spp, most predominant fungi all samples. Seed-to-seedling transmission test results confirmed that F. oxysporum, R. causal pathogens caused root rot damping-off beans transmitted seedlings. higher rate observed Golja-GF2 (97%), a lower Kure Gatira-KF8 (81%). vitro evaluation extract revealed at 5%, 10% 20% concentrations significantly inhibited mycelial growth fungi. Inhibitory three (R. solani, oxysporum) recorded T. longibrachiatum (87.91%), atroviride (86.87%), virens (86.16%) harzianum (85.45%). inhibitory effect aqueous increased an increase concentration, hot water showed compared cold This highest Allium sativum L. extracted concentration inhibition (F. solani) 84.60%, 83.61% 83.47%, respectively. However, Nicandra physalodes (L.) Gaertn.) same lowest (74.94%, 73.94% 73.24%).
