Seroprevalence and associated risk factors of hepatitis B virus among street children in Isfahan, Iran (2005–2007)

ABSTRACT
Background: Millions of children throughout the world live on street. They are at higher risk viral diseases (eg.hepatitis B virus) because physical, sexual and drug abuse. The aim this study was to evaluate prevalence hepatitis virus (HBV) its factors in Isfahan street children. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, we selected 399 by simple sampling method June 2005-March 2007 from correctional centers Isfahan,Iran. After getting information giving concept form,data sociodemographic characteristics life time were obtained during structured interview venous blood sample taken for HBV testing.The tests HBs Ag, Ab HBc doen ELISA data analyzed SPSS software version 15 used t-test, 62, Mann Whitney logistic regression. Results: We studied 271 (68%) boys 128 (32%) girls. Their mean age 12.74 ± 3.27 years. our poverty main motivation (68% participants). 91.7%, 94.7% 96.7% participants had no history smoking, drinking alcoholic beverages or abuse, respectively. 34.4% girls 4.4% (P = 0.001) sexually abused 68% 17.3% involved physical fighting. seroprevalence 3.3%, 14.4% 2.1% No significant statistical difference between HBV-seroprevalence probable factors. Conclusion: According markers same group general population,it seems that have more infection less protection. Educational programs safer behaviors, improve quality life, vaccination those who non-immune recommended them.
