ABSTRACT
Background: In Brazil, few studies describe HCV prevalence in general population and it is estimated from 0.4 to 3.0% distinct regions of the country. The objective this study was estimate seroprevalence hepatitis C South Southeast Brazil. Methods: A population-based survey carried out Brazil (2007/2008), as part a national conducted all five sample representative 7 state capitals these people 10 69 years old were considered. each capital census tracts and, then, blocks drawn with probability proportional size; subsequently systematic households their residents selected. approved by regional ethical committees signed informed consent obtained. Hepatitis antibodies (anti-HCV) screened automated ELISA (Axsym™ – ABBOTT Laboratories) confirmed manual test (DiaSorin™). It considered positive serum samples reagent results both tests. Results: total 7,835 individuals investigated regions. Anti-HCV 0.056% (95%-CI: 0.000-0.167) age group 10-19 1.1% (95%- CI:0.581-1.633) 20 region. From region Anti- 0.112% (95%-CI:0.000-0.268) 0.76% CI:0.389-1.130) 20-69.
