ABSTRACT
Safety is the highest priority in mining industry as underground particular poses high safety risks to its workers. In coal mines, bursts are one of most catastrophic hazards, which involves sudden and violent dynamic mass failure with rapid ejection broken material into mine workings. Despite decades research, contributing mechanisms still not completely understood. Hence, it remains challenging forecast quantify their likelihood occurrence. However, a range geological geotechnical factors associated can increase burst proneness. This paper introduces semi-quantitative risk classification system, namely, BurstRisk. Based on back-analysis case histories from Australia, China United States, BurstRisk classifies three categories: low, medium risk. addition, allows engineers modify weighting selected based specific conditions. The charts introduced for both longwall retreat development sections operations. also provides set management strategies control measures effective mitigation.
