ABSTRACT
Objective/Background: Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is growing globally and becoming a major challenge for national TB control programs. Therefore, rapid identification of MDR strains Mycobacterium tuberculosis monitoring their transmission could contribute significantly to the TB. The GenoType MTBDRplus assay has been recommended by World Health Organization identify rifampicin (RIF)- isoniazid (INH)-resistant M. Tuberculosis isolates. This study was carried out evaluate performance detection RIF- INH-resistant isolates in central Ethiopia. Methods: A total 279 isolated from active cases Ethiopia were evaluated drug sensitivity conventional drug-susceptibility test (DST) compared with data derived assay. DST served as gold standard evaluating Results: specificity RIF-resistant 80.0% 99.6%, respectively. Its 82.7% respectively, whereas they 75.0% 100%, strains. concordances RIF INH susceptibility 80% (8/10) 86.2% (25/29), Furthermore, concordance two tests 75%. Specific mutations detected 55.6% (5/9) isolates, highest mutation rate (33.3%) rpoB gene (Codon S531L). For (88.8%) related katG S315T1). Conclusion: findings this revealed that high resistance. These preliminary support notion should be considered an alternative characterization TB.
