ABSTRACT
Foreign body (FB) ingestion results in perforation 1% of cases and is associated with significant morbidity rarely mortality. Clinical presentation variable can present a diagnostic challenge. We report our experience management patient delayed sigmoid colon foreign as result dental plate. A 67 year old female attended the colorectal outpatient clinic following an incidental finding mass on computed tomography (CT) abdomen. Further investigation identified plate impacted thickened colon. On further questioning recalled losing her dentures three years previously. At surgery had partially eroded through into pelvic side wall. colectomy hand sewn end-to-end colo-colic anastomosis was performed. Localised may morbidity. Extra luminal migration local inflammatory response resulted formation walled off collection. Delayed complications include abscess fistula formation. Clinicians need to exhibit high index suspicion when treating edentulous patients alcohol drug abusers who acute abdomen or sub-acute atypical imaging endoscopic findings. The decision regarding intervention strategy by depends chronicity case, extent localised diffuse peritonitis, size lesion area bowel involved.
