ABSTRACT
The frequency of ballistic spinal injuries is rising in developing nations around the globe. These lead to a functional prognosis linked disabling sequelae and vitals patients, which often results serious complications death. This study describes epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic, evolutionary characteristics Ballistic Medullar-Vertebral trauma (BMVT). It presents particularities management sub-Saharan African country Chad. prospective descriptive 27 injury patients conducted over an 18-month period. (BMVI) represented 12.9 % trauma. average age was 31.8, 40.7 were between 31 40 years age. Military personnel 78 patients. 44.4 cases came from Lake Chad region. 59.3 caused by Kalashnikov's (AK 47) firearms. 74.1 admitted emergency department within 12 24 h. diameter wounds that corresponded entry orifice bullet 1 2 cm 59.25 cases. A Dural breach found 14.8 %. 48.1 had ASIA C score none them met criteria for cord collection immobilization. lumbosacral location reported 55.6 %, type I Roy Camille fracture 70.37 Surgical performed 88.9 Multidisciplinary associated lesions 25.9 7.4 with cervical died due septic shock. Delayed admissions limited access medicalized transportation are main factors BMVI Lesion predominantly located Lesions involvement poor vital prognosis. Surgery plays important role management. Socio-professional reintegration remains problematic.
