ABSTRACT
A chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is one of the most common neurosurgery operations. This study aimed to evaluate effect topical corticosteroids combined with surgery in patients CSDH. The present a clinical trial on referred hospitals associated Ahvaz University Medical Sciences 2019. Patients requiring surgical drainage who met inclusion criteria underwent open craniotomy side hematoma. drain was placed site. On third day after operation, before removing drain, 40 mg methylprednisolone sodium succinate injected through into space, which pulled entirely. were evaluated Markwalder Grading Scale (MGS) day, month, and sixth month for improved or worsened neurological symptoms. Also, months surgery, Computerized Tomography Scan imaging checked recurrence. 32 CSDH entered study, including 28 men four women, mean age 71.62 ± 9.85 years. Moreover, 87.5 % had unilateral (uCSDH), 12.5 bilateral (bCSDH). Left right uCSDHs same frequency (43. 8 %). After 26 no postoperative complications, six experienced pneumocephalus. Topical dexamethasone injection potential cavity can result desirable outcomes.
