ABSTRACT
Prediction is critical for successful interactions with a dynamic environment. To test the development of predictive processes over life span, we designed suite interceptive tasks implemented as interactive video games. Four involving flying ball titrated challenge quantified spatiotemporal aspects prediction. For comparison, reaction time was assessed in matching task. The experiments were conducted museum, where 400 visitors across all ages participated, and laboratory focused age group. Results consistently showed that ability improved to reach adult level by 12. In contrast, continued decrease into late adolescence. Inter-task correlations revealed tested different processes. This developmental progression complements recent findings on cerebellar cortical maturation. Additionally, these results can serve normative data study individuals neurodevelopmental conditions.
