ABSTRACT
Over two billion people around the world suffer from anemia. Majority of populations are using dietary supplements and herbal medicines for management anemic conditions. Many polyherbal formulations such as Raktavardhak Kadha (RK), available in Indian market a nutritional supplement herbal-based medicine The present study is aimed at investigating antianemic potential formulation, RK, against phenylhydrazine-induced anemia rats. RK was subjected to preliminary phytochemical analysis iron estimation. Anemia induced by phenylhydrazine administration (40 mg/kg, i.p.) 2 consecutive days. Antianemic activity investigated dose 1.8 ml/kg, twice daily 12 days estimating blood parameters pathological changes liver, heart, spleen bone marrow. found contain saponins, steroids, flavonoids, tannins phenolic compounds. Iron content be 5 mg/100 ml RK. induction injections rats caused significant decrease red cells (RBCs), hemoglobin hematocrit. These decreased levels RBCs, hematocrit significantly improved treatment with Furthermore, restored marrow tissues near normal. This suggests which can attributed its ability prevent hemolysis.
