Efficacy of whole system ayurveda protocol in irritable bowel syndrome – A Randomized controlled clinical trial

ABSTRACT
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is one of the clinically challenging disorders. It has a significant effect on health, cost and quality life. Ayurveda management through whole system approach in IBS explored.To evaluate efficacy IBS.The present trial randomized controlled parallel group study. 48 patients diagnosed as (Rome IV Criteria) between age 20-60 yrs were recruited Patients randomly divided into 2 groups. KC intervened with Kalingadi Churna 3 gm twice day, before food buttermilk. WS ayurveda protocol (WSAP). Duration intervention was 60 days follow up every 15th day. Assessments various clinical measures like Symptom Severity Score (IBS-SSS), Adequate Relief (IBS-AR), Gastrointestinal symptom rating scale (GSRS), IBS-VAS, Complete Spontaneous Bowel Movements (CSBMs), Bristol Stool Form (BSF), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS), Depression (HDRS), life (IBS-QoL) at up. Hemoglobin, Erythrocyte sedimentation rate stool examination conducted pre post study.Study showed that had improvement compared to IBS-SSS, IBS-AR, CSBM, BSF-Diarrhea BSF-Constipation. Both groups comparable GSRS, HARS, HDRS IBS-QOL. Blood parameters assessments improvements both Within all assessment scales observed groups.WSAP effective (IBS constipation diarrhea). Improvements abdominal pain, frequency, consistency adequate relief.
