ABSTRACT
Abstract Bright white light upconversion luminescence emission is achieved in Yb3+/Er3+/Tm3+ triply doped CaZrO3 under the excitation of 980 nm diode laser, as a function of Tm3+ concentration and pump power. It is mainly dominated by three colors, blue, green and red due to the electronic transitions 1G4→3H6 of Tm3+, 2H11/2, 4S3/2 → 4I15/2 and 4F9/2 → 4I15/2 of Er3+ ions, respectively. These colors can be tuned by optimizing the doping concentrations of Yb3+, Er3+ and Tm3+ ions. Increasing the concentration of Tm3+ ions enhances the blue emission until the concentration reaches 0.3 mol%, while it acts as quenching centers for both the red as well as the green emissions of Er3+ ions and confirms the transfer of energy between Er3+ and Tm3+ ions. The CIE color chromaticity coordinates for CaZrO3: 4.0%Yb3+/0.2%Er3+/1.8%Tm3+ under the excitation of 980 nm diode laser source approaches the vicinity of white color (x = 0.33, y = 0.33) indicating the practical applications in display devices and laser fields. Moreover, the possible energy transfer involved is discussed in details. Triply doped CaZrO3: Yb3+/Er3+/Tm3+ is unprecedented and reported for the first time with white light emission.
