ABSTRACT
There is a need for sensitive neuropsychological tests to uncover the subtle cognitive deficits emerging during late preclinical stage of Alzheimer's disease. Associative memory, binding together previously unrelated information, supported by hippocampus and might be function that affected early in In this study we applied new computerized face-name associative recognition test (FNART) capture putative changes memory clinic patients with Subjective Cognitive Decline (SCD). Sixty-one from Bonn 28 healthy older controls (HC) were recruited study. All participants underwent comprehensive examination FNART, which requires learned associations. order classified as Mild Impairment (MCI; n=27, mean age:67.85, SD=9.05), had have at least one subtest score CERAD (Consortium Establish Registry Disease) battery below age-, sex- education- adjusted normative values (<-1.5SD). contrast, subjects SCD (n=34; age:68.26, SD=8.47) also HC (mean age:67.46, SD=8.12) within respective norms all subtests (>-1.5SD). reported self-experienced decline, while normal age. ANOVA revealed significant effect group on FNART performance (p<.001). Planned contrasts indicated significantly lower (M=64.90, SD=12.99, p=.001, d=.82) MCI (M=60.08, SD=8.92, p<.001, d=1.54), compared HCs (M=74.89, SD=11.65), respectively. ROC analysis discriminated (AUC=.723, SE=.06, p<.001) (AUC=.837, SE=.05, p<.001). The results indicate not only impaired but SCD, whom many can expected AD. short procedure assess without requiring free recall, advantageous patient assessment. Longitudinal biomarker studies are needed establish predictive validity FNART. other recently developed could useful supplement established batteries detection intervention studies.
