ABSTRACT
Lignocellulosic biomass is the most abundant inexpensive renewable source for obtaining biofuels and bioproducts. One of greatest problems faced in valorizing arises from recalcitrance lignin–carbohydrate complex resulting inefficient conversion into value-added products. Some ionic liquids (ILs) have proved effective solvents deconstructing lignocellulosic biomass, however. In fact, ILs provide uniquely "green" alternatives to hazardous conventional volatile organic solvents. Progress IL-based pretreatment methods can lead increased productivity materials. This review discusses potential prominent types influence their cation–anion combination on physicochemical properties. Also, it describes existing approaches dissolution fractionation three major components with classifies them according target. Finally, optimum operating conditions process are commented challenges be overcome using processing an industrial level considered, especially as regards synthesis costs economic hurdles. The high this purpose expected boost research topic substantial progress area.
