ABSTRACT
To date, the management of polluted soils and sediments is challenging because they can be characterized by heterogeneous conditions, miscellaneous contaminants (organic inorganic ones), fine grains low-hydraulic permeability. In these cases, current treatment methods are poorly effective. ElectroChemical Remediation Technologies (ECRTs) considered some main appealing strategies for remediation such complex sites. The ECRTs based on application a relatively low cell potential value, between two or more electrodes, inducing an electric field (E) through media, which prompts contaminated site. This work was focused study electrochemical kaolin artificially spiked with five alkanes (C12H26, C13H28, C14H30, C16H34, C18H38), namely C12-C18. Kaolin selected as model reproducible, low-buffering, low-permeability clay mixture C12-C18 hazardous petrol hydrocarbon compounds. effect several operative including E intensity, type technology, presence supporting electrolyte, investigated. It found that adopted values simultaneously mobilize degrade in situ shorten chain compound, easier efficiency, R. shown usage approximately 0.50 V cm-1 allows to reach total removal (R(C12-C18)) ∼70% after 96 hours. Finally, it demonstrated sodium chloride improves performances process: R(C12-C18) increased from 61 83% when NaCl added.
