ABSTRACT
This study evaluates the intake, tolerability and effect of aged garlic extract (AGE) on cardiovascular markers (blood pressure, body composition, glycemic lipid parameters), stool consistency its relationship with dietary factors. is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial that included 19 hypertensive volunteers. Participants were randomly treated daily 1.2 g AGE (1.2 mg s-allylcysteine) or placebo for 12 weeks. Mixed model analysis was used to detect possible changes, which assessed every 4 At these times also evaluated using Bristol scale. The biological markers, collected before after experimental period (fasting glucose, glycated hemoglobin, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, high very low-density triglycerides, non-HDL cholesterol) analyzed parametric tests. Only group showed significant reductions in systolic levels at week 12. pressure variation correlated average intake vitamin B12 B9. An improvement identified only group. Modest biochemical decrease hemoglobin occurred There no difference anthropometric variables groups. 12-week intervention resulted blood improvements consistency, parameters lipoprotein patients but uncontrolled pressure. In addition, we found correlation between vitamins B9 AGE.
